Summary: A married, albeit estranged, Harry and Hermione have been quietly living in America the past ten years. They have twin daughters. Shortly before their return, they receive an owl from McGonagall (one of the few who knew where they were) offering them teaching positions at Hogwarts. They accept her offer, but at the same time are understandably apprehensive about the possible repercussions resulting from their return, mainly because of the way they left and the rumour they spread before leaving. (Definitely AU, set post-Hogwarts.)
This is definitely an AU story where Harry and Hermione get married and run off together. However, they find their marriage disintegrating after ten years and twin daughters...and Hermione's having had an affair with a co-worker. In addition, Harry realises he still loves Ginny but is sure that she will not take him back again, especially after the way he and Hermione left and lied to everyone, including Ginny herself. After he and Hermione accept McGonagall's offer, Harry vows to do everything he can to win Ginny (and the others they left behind) back, whatever he has to do...and thereby hangs the tale.
